Naik Nar Bahadur Thapa – Ashok Chakra Awardee

Naik Nar Bahadur Thapa was in 5th Battalion, 5 Gorkha Rifles. On 13 September 1948, they captured the Tungabhadra Railway Bridge in Hyderabad. The Company was help up on the left flank of the bridge by automatic fire from two enemy positions. He silenced the machine gun post with his khukri and enabled his platoon to advance and secure the vital Tungabhadra bridge. His brave and courageous action, in the face of heavy hostile firing, earned him the Ashok Chakra.
